WATERFORD FC
After falling to a late extra-time defeat to Athlone Town AFC in the Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup last Friday, the Blues return their focus to league action this Friday with the visit of Derry City FC to the RSC.
In the Blues’ last league outing, they recovered from trailing two-nil at half-time against Bohemian FC at Dalymount Park a fortnight ago to pick up all three points thanks to second half goals from an Adam McDonnell own-goal, Darragh Power & Sam Glenfield – Glenfield’s first for the Blues.
That win kept the Blues in third spot in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division table – with 40 points to their name from 27 games – as Keith Long’s side kick-off their final round of fixtures against Derry City this Friday.
DERRY CITY FC
Ruairdhri Higgins brings his side back down to Munster for the second time in as many weeks to face the Blues this Friday – having made the long journey to Cork last weekend for their Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup Third Round tie which they progressed in thanks to a 72nd-minute goal from Sam Todd.
The Candystripes are winless in their last three games (2 Draws, 1 Loss), but before that were on a six game unbeaten run.
Derry have had success over the Blues this season, winning all three games against Keith Long’s side – including a two-nil win at the RSC back in April.
The Candystripes sit in second-place in the league table just two points behind Shelbourne, with 46 points to their name after 27 games.
