Five of our Waterford FC Academy sides were in competitive action over the weekend, with reports available on each game below:
SATURDAY
MU20 – Waterford FC 1-3 Shamrock Rovers FC
Our MU20 side came out on the wrong side of a 3-1 score line at home to Shamrock Rovers on Saturday afternoon at SETU Arena.
The Hoops started the quicker of the sides, racing into a two-goal lead after 13 minutes, before adding a third mid-way through the second-half. The Blues continued to battle, and deservedly pulled one back with 15 minutes remaining when Zak O’Sullivan fired home.
WU17 – Cork City FC 2-0 Waterford FC
Our WU17 side made the journey down to Leeside on Saturday to take on Munster Rivals Cork City FC in their WU17 Tier One meeting, as City came out on top in a two-nil win.
An even game throughout the 90 minutes of action, it was the hosts who netted twice inside the final twenty minutes to secure the points at Mayfield United FC.
MU15 – Limerick FC 0-5 Waterford FC
Our MU15’s returned to winning ways on Saturday afternoon away to fellow Munster outfit Limerick FC at Charleville AFC.
Calum Slattery opened the scoring after 20 minutes, before Tiernan O’Brien doubled the lead in the second-half. Further goals from Slattery to make it a brace, along with a double from Ivan Voloshyn himself rounded off a perfect 5-0 win for the Blues.
SUNDAY
MU17 – Waterford FC 0-3 Cobh Ramblers FC
It was late heartbreak for our MU17 side against Cobh Ramblers FC at SETU Arena, as three goals inside the final five minutes inflicted defeat on the Blues.
After an even 85 minutes on action, Cobh found the breakthrough with just minutes remaining through James Traynor, before netting twice more in injury time as the Blues pressed on to make sure of the points.
MU14 – Waterford FC 2-2 Bray Wanderers FC
Our MU14 side had a share of the points on Sunday afternoon at SETU Arena against Bray Wanderers FC in an entertaining two-all draw.
Twice going into the lead, the Blues were pegged back both times by Bray as nothing could separate the sides.
Temmy Gazal opened the scoring after just three minutes to give the Blues the perfect start, before the Wicklow side levelled proceedings after 20 minutes. The in-form Cormac Lowry regained the Blues lead on 37 minutes, before again Bray levelled the score twenty minutes later.
