Waterford FC are excited to announce that Rowan McDonald has put pen to paper to remain a Blue for 2025.
The Blues number six has penned a new deal with the club to remain with the Blues for 2025 after an impressive first full-season with Waterford over the last 12-months.
McDonald made the move across the Irish Sea to join the club in August of 2023, as he played a pivotal role in guiding the Blues back to the Premier Division, before going on to make 32 appearances for the Blues in 2024.
The tough tackling midfielder came up through the ranks of the Manchester City FC Academy, where their former Youth captain picked up an U21 Premier League winners medal along with an U18 English Youth League medal.
McDonald played a key role for Keith Long’s side in 2024, anchoring the Blues midfield with his eye for a tough tackle, as he made a name for himself within the talented Premier Division midfield.
Rowan spoke to waterfordfc.ie about his delight to remain with the club for 2025, commenting:
“I’m delighted to sign new deal. I’ve really enjoyed my time at Waterford, and I believe we can push on next year. The gaffer has always shown faith in me, especially after my injury and got me back playing again. The fans were class last year and I’m really looking forward to getting back in front of them and excited for the year ahead.”
Waterford FC Head Coach Keith Long also spoke on his delight in having Rowan re-sign for 2025:
“Great to have him back at the club for season 2025 – a key player and influence around the club since his arrival mid season 2023. I’m delighted to continue our working relationship and I believe Rowan will continue to get better in a blues shirt.”
