Waterford FC are delighted to announce that Pádraig Amond will lead the Blues as our Captain for the 2025 SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division campaign.

Head Coach Keith Long has named the Blues number nine as our captain for 2025 ahead of our opening fixture of the season, which kicks off on Saturday evening away to Sligo Rovers FC at The Showgrounds [7:45pm].
Amond made the move back home to Ireland just over 12-months ago, as he proved an important figure in the Blues’ side in 2024 – netting 16 goals in his first season back in the League of Ireland – as he ended the campaign as joint Top Goal scorer in the Premier Division alongside Derry City’s Patrick Hoban.
Pádraig will be assisted by Darragh Leahy & Andy Boyle, who have been named as our co vice-captains for the 2025 campaign.
Keith Long spoke of Amond’s importance within the dressing room, as he names the Carlow-native as captain for the coming year:
“It’s a no brainer really when you consider the experience that Pádraig has got. I’ve spoken on many occasions about Podge, and how well regarded he is in all facets of the game, from supporters to players, coaches, managers, and officials. I’m delighted to name Podge as our captain.
He’ll be assisted by Darragh Leahy and Andy Boyle, along with one or two others. We have a leadership group at the club that drive standards in the dressing room. So Pádraig is the man that will wear the armband for this year, and I’m delighted to working with him for another year”.
Amond himself commented on the honour the armband brings, saying:
“It’s a really proud moment for me. When the gaffer told me, I was really proud to be leading a team managed by Keith Long. I’m delighted to be announced as captain. The lads know that they can come to me with anything they have, and if I can help with anything that I can give advice to I will.”
Congratulations Pádraig!
