WATERFORD FC

The Blues make the long journey to the Showgrounds on Saturday looking to pick up their first points of the season after a positive display against Shelbourne FC at the RSC last weekend.

Despite the visitors returning to Dublin with the points last Saturday, Gary Hunt’s side can be happy with their efforts throughout the game, limiting the reigning FAI Cup champions to goals via set-pieces in the second-half.

The girls in Blue will look to pick up a positive result in Sligo on Saturday evening, a game that will be broadcast live on TG4 from 7:15pm.

SLIGO ROVERS FC

The Bit o’Red welcome the Blues to the Showgrounds on Saturday looking to pick up their first win of the campaign, after falling to a 4-0 defeat away to Cork City FC at Turners Cross last weekend.

Steve Feeney’s side played out a scoreless draw at home to Bohemian FC on the opening weekend of the season, as they sit in tenth position in the league table after two league games.

TEAM NEWS

No fresh injuries or concerns following last week’s game against Shelbourne. Lauren Egbuloniu remains absent due to injury.

GARY HUNT’S THOUGHTS

“After a couple of weeks of milestone games for the club, we can now look forward to the challenge each game brings us and up first is a trip to Sligo.

We are disappointed with last week’s result having put a lot into the game but there were some positives to take also. Our defensive shape was good and we will look to build on those foundations but we do know we can still get better too.

The group have put in another really good week of training as we continue to embed our principles into the players and in time we will grow and I’m sure results will follow. We see this week as an opportunity to put some points on the board but I’m aware that so will Sligo and we can’t lose sight of the threats they will offer on home soil.”
