Waterford FC vs Shamrock Rovers FC

SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division

Friday 16th May, 2025

RSC, Waterford

19:45pm

WATERFORD FC

Fresh from an impressive 1-0 win against Galway United FC at the RSC last Friday, John Coleman’s side go in search of their fifth win on the bounce after putting together four consecutive wins in our last four games.

With wins against Derry City FC (2-1), Bohemian FC (2-1), Shelbourne FC (1-0) & most recently Galway United FC (1-0), the Blues will look to continue that run of form against the Hoops on Friday night.

Waterford go into Friday’s game with 21 points to their name from their first 15 league games of the 2025 season, just five points off top spot ahead of kick-off.

SHAMROCK ROVERS FC

Stephen Bradley & co make the journey to the RSC on Friday looking to make it three wins in 11 days – after picking up maximum points at home to Sligo Rovers FC (2-0) & Drogheda United FC (3-0) last week.

These wins have pushed Rovers to the top of the Premier Division table – level on points with Derry City FC as we edge closer to the mid-way point of the League of Ireland campaign.

Shamrock Rovers defeated the Blues by two-goals-to-nil back in April thanks to goals either side of half-time from Aaron McEneff & Lee Grace, as they look to maintain their place at the top of the league table on Friday evening.

TEAM NEWS

John Coleman has no fresh injury concerns to worry about following last Friday’s win over Galway United at the RSC.

Conan Noonan is ineligible to face his parent club as per his loan agreement, whilst Trae Coyle, Matty Smith & Andy Boyle all continue their recovery from injury.

JOHN COLEMAN’S THOUGHTS

“We’ve got good coaching staff, and a good set-up, with very good players, that will leave no stone unturned. The players don’t take anything for granted, and everything we do is going to be based off hard work.

The fans were fantastic last week, we all really appreciated that support. Coming over from the UK (myself & Danny [Ventre]), some people may not have known us too well, but the whole crowd made us feel extremely welcome.

Shamrock Rovers are top of the league for a reason. But I have no doubt if we go out there tomorrow night with heart, and passion, and desire, that our lads will do everything they can to come away to all three points”.
