One final away trip for the Blues in 2025, as Matt Lawlor’s side travel to Richmond Park to take on St. Patrick’s Athletic in our penultimate SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division game of the season, and we have everything you need to know ahead of kick-off!

St. Patrick’s Athletic FC vs Waterford FC
SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division
Friday 24th October, 2025
Richmond Park, Dublin
7:45pm
WATERFORD FC
The Blues make their final journey to Dublin of the year on Friday looking to produce a performance similar to our last meeting against St. Patrick’s in Richmond Park, as Waterford picked up a poin in an entertaining 2-2 draw against Stephen Kenny’s men back in August.
An instant start for the Blues saw us 1-0 up inside the opening 75-seconds through Tommy Lonergan’s sharp finish. The hosts entered the break with the lead, however, with a quickfire brace from teenager Mason Melia on the half-hour mark, before Conan Noonan deservedly pulled the Blues level with ten minutes remaining.
After falling to a 2-1 defeat away to Derry City last Friday, Matt Lawlor’s side will hope to return to winning ways this week.
The Blues currently occupy 9th position in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division table ahead of Friday’s game, level on 37 points with Sligo Rovers & Galway United – with Galway having one game in hand on both Waterford & Sligo – as we enter the final fortnight of the campaign.

ST. PATRICK’S ATHLETIC FC
The Saints head into Friday night’s clash fresh from their 0-0 stalement away to Bohemian FC in Dalymount Park in their re-arannaged Dublin Derby meeting, a point which sees Stephen Kenny’s side sit in fifth position in the league table going into the final two rounds of fixtures.
St. Pat’s defeated Shamrock Rovers 1-0 at home last Friday thanks to Simon Power’s impressive strike five miutes before the break, as the Inchicore side look to secure a European spot for 2026.
St. Pats defeated the Blues in our most recent meeting in August, as goals either side of half-time from Mason Melia & substitute Conor Carty gave the visitors all three points at the RSC.

TEAM NEWS
Grant Horton will miss the trip to Richmond Park on Friday night through suspension (accumulation of yellow cards).
MATT LAWLOR’S THOUGHTS
“Training has been as good as it ever has been this week. It’s been bright & professional, and it’s been information driven for the players to go into a game against St. Pats. They’re a good side; We went to watch them on Monday in Dalymount [against Bohemians], so we know they’re a good team.
We can only prepare for what we think the best version of St. Pats will be. We saw a really good version of them last Friday against Shamrock Rovers, and again on Monday. But we’re also trying to put our best version forward ourselves.
It’s a good ground to play in [Richmond Park]. It’s a tight pitch, and we’ve got to make sure we feel on top of them during the 90 minutes. We’ve always had good support on the road, and we want to make the Blues support proud tomorrow night. We will put out a team that looks like a Waterford team in my opinion, fighting for the badge.”
