Waterford FC are excited to announce the appointment of Richard Foster as Assistant Coach to Jon Daly ahead of the 2026 League of Ireland season.

The 40-year-old Scotsman makes the move to the RSC to work alongside Jon Daly after Daly’s appointment with the Blues last weekend.
Foster spent 19 years playing professionally himself, most notably with lengthy spells in Scotland with Aberdeen, Rangers & St. Johnstone, as he racked up over 500 career appearances before hanging up his boots with Detroit City FC in the United States in 2022 after he joined the USL Championship side in a player-coaching role for the second half of 2022.
Richard returned to Scotland in March of 2023 where he was named Head of Academy Coaching with Scottish Premiership side Motherwell FC, where he also held the post of Motherwell’s U18 Head Coach.
Foster spent over two-and-a-half years at Fir Park, before departing earlier this month has he now takes up the role at Blues Assistant Coach to Jon Daly.
Speaking on his appointment at the RSC, Richard spoke of his delight to work alongside Jon Daly, commenting:
“I’m delighted to get the chance to work with Jon. I’m looking forward to getting to know the club and the people of Waterford. I’m really excited about the potential the club has here in Waterford”.
Waterford FC Head Coach Jon Daly also welcomed the appointment of Richard Foster to the club, saying:
“I’m delighted to get Richard in. Although we haven’t worked together before in a coaching capacity, I’ve known him a long time and heard very good things about his coaching ability. He’s an extremely hard working coach with a passion for helping players improve.”
Welcome to the Blues, Richard!
