Pádraig Amond Signs Two-Year Contract Extension

Waterford FC are thrilled to announce that Pádraig Amond has committed his future to the club by signing a two-year extension with the club ahead of the 2026 SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division season.

Amond heads into his third season with the Blues, having played a crucial role leading the Blues attack in his opening two years at the RSC – both of which culminated in earning the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division Golden Boot award.

Captain of the Blues, ‘Podge’ joined the club in January of 2024 and instantly became a fans favourite at the club for his goalscoring ability & tireless work-rate off the ball. His leadership to the side has become invaluable to the Blues over the last 24 months, as he signs a two-year extension with the club just days before the start of our 2026 campaign.

Amond has twice been named as the SWI/SSE Airtricity Player of the Month whilst a Blue (in May of 2024 & July 2025), as well as being named in the PFAI Team of the Year at the end of both seasons. To add to his accolades, Amond was also nominated for the PFAI Premier Division Player of the Year award in 2024.

The now 37 year-old forward has scored 32 times in his two-years to-date with the Blues, as he looks to play an important role for Jon Daly’s side in 2026 & beyond.

Speaking to the club after signing his new deal at the Blues, the Carlow-native spoke of his happiness to commit his future at the RSC, saying:

“I’m delighted to get this deal done. I’ve loved my two years at the club so far from the environment to the people in the club, so I’m delighted to be here. I love the fact it’s so close to home for me so my family can come down & watch every game. My son is getting massively into it knowing all the players, and that’s what it’s about for me – enjoying my football.

Ultimately, I want to do something at this football club. I want to go on a cup-run, try to look further up the league table and break into that top-half. Try to emulate what Drogheda did two years ago and get that momentum. We’ve got a really good manager in place in Jon Daly who’s been excellent since he’s come in. We’re in a good place, so I’m delighted to be here for another two years”.

Waterford FC Head Coach Jon Daly also spoke of his delight in tying-down our skipper for another two-years:

“We’re delighted to get Podge tied down. He’s been one of the top strikers in the league over the last number of years & he’s had a fantastic career so far. On and off the pitch he’s been a massive asset to the team and club, so it was really important that we got that business done. I’m delighted that he’s committed his future to the club for the next couple of years”.
