Waterford FC are excited to confirm that Jess Lawler has committed her future to the Blues, re-signing ahead of the 2026 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division season.

The energetic full-back continues into her second year as a Blue, having played 25 of our 26 games for the club last season.

Lawler heads into her second full season with the club, having joined our U19 academy side in 2024 before making the step up to our senior side in 2025 where she became a mainstay in the Blues defence.

Before joining our academy set-up in 2024, Lawler had spent two-and-a-half years with Wexford FC where she made 24 senior appearances across all competitions.

After an excellent first year in Blue last year, Lawler is excited to continue her time with Waterford in 2026, saying:

“I’m really happy to re-sign and continue representing Waterford FC. I’m hungry for the season ahead and ready to give everything, and play my part in helping the team succeed.”

Blues Head Coach Gary Hunt is delighted to maintain the services of Lawler for 2026, mentioning:

“Jess returning gives us more continuity in the group. We are keen to grow the group but want to keep the nucleus of the team and build onto that and Jess is one of those. She had a strong season last year playing left full-back and I am sure she will feature a lot again in 2026.

We want to be better and create an environment that will allow the players the opportunity to be better and I know that Jess will benefit massively from this as she is still a young player albeit she might have had more responsibility than others in the team and sometimes we have to manage that and allow her to develop too.

I am looking forward to seeing Jess kick on now in 2026 and I am sure she will give all the blues fans plenty to shout about this season.”
