Ahead of kick-off, Gary Hunt made one change to his side from last week’s opening day draw against Wexford FC at the RSC, with new signing Kaytlin Conroy coming in for her first start for the club in place of Jess Lawler, who missed out on today’s game through injury.
The hosts looked to threaten first with, Stephanie Dumevi called into defensive action after 8 minutes, blocking from Madison McGuane inside the Blues penalty area to stop the danger.
The Blues looked to cause danger themselves just minutes later, as Kaytlin Conroy’s direct run found her in behind the Treaty full-back, before laying off to Olivia Shannon who saw her shot blocked, with Erin O’Brien unable to see off a shot of her own.
The first big chance of the game fell to the Blues on 18′, when Fiana Bradley played through Erin O’Brien one-on-one with Katherine Hess in the Treaty goal, as O’Brien forced Hess into an excellent save to keep the score level.
Just before the half-hour mark, Treaty captain Katie Lawlee dragged an effort wide of the Blues goal as the Waterford defence continued to stand strong, limiting the hosts to no clear-cut opportunities in front of goal.
It was Katherine Hess who again denied Erin O’Brien on 29′, as O’Brien’s long-range effort looked destined for the top-corner before the Treaty shot-stopper palmed her effort away.
Stephanie Dumevi was next to have an effort on goal, as she broke through the Treaty midfield before seeing her low effort saved once more by Hess. Just moments after, Fiana Bradley forced Hess into her latest save, as the Blues looked to find the opener before the break.
But despite all the Waterford pressure, it was the hosts who eventually found the opening goal, as Ciara Breslin found the bottom corner inside the first-half additional time to give Treaty the lead at half-time.
Early in the second-half, Maeve Williams saved well from Katie Lawlee inside the Blues area, before Breslin saw an effort blocked by Dan Burke as the hosts put pressure on early in the second period.
Just after the hour mark, Ciara Breslin got in ahead of Maeve Williams, connecting to a cross from the left, as Breslin saw her effort scrap the Blues crossbar and away to danger.
Kaytlin Conroy forced Hess to stand tall to keep the Blues wing-back out on 72′, as Gary Hunt’s side continued to put the pressure on the Treaty defence.
But as the Blues looked to get back into the game, it was the hosts who doubled their lead on 73′, when Katie Lawlee forced Maeve Williams into a low save before Ciara Breslin was quickest to react to net her second & her sides second of the afternoon.
Treaty found a third just minutes later, when Kate Jones headed home Kyah Coady’s corner-kick to give the hosts a three-goal lead, as Treaty saw out the remainder of the action to pick up their first win of the season.
