WATERFORD FC

The Blues will be looking to build on Friday night’s point at home to Derry City with a positive result against Drogheda United on Monday evening, in what is our latest double header weekend of the 2026 season.

After falling 1-0 down in the first-half on Friday, Tommy Lonergan netted his fifth of the season from the penalty spot on the hour-mark to get us level, before Kevin Long scored his first goal for the club with a bullet header on 83′, getting his head on the end of Benny Couto’s inch-perfect delivery to give us a lead late on. However, the visitors broke Blues hearts in the final seconds as Henry Rylah’s 94th minute header secured a point for Tiernan Lynch’s Candystripes.

Graham Coughlan’s side will look to pick up their first win of the season on Monday night, as we enter the final stretch of the first-half of the season, with just two games left before the mid-season break at the start of June.

DROGHEDA UNITED FC

Drogheda themselves make the journey to the RSC on Monday night looking for a positive result after falling to defeat away to Bohemians on Friday. Dayle Rooney & Pat Hickey gave the hosts a two-goal lead before former Blue Thomas Oluwa netted a consolation goal inside the final five minutes of normal time at Dalymount Park, as Drogheda fell to their seventh defeat of the season.

The Boynesiders defeated the Blues 2-0 in Sullivan & Lambe Park back in February in gameweek two, with goals from Shane Farrell & Mark Doyle inside the opening ten minutes securing the points for Kevin Doherty’s side.

Drogheda sit in eighth position in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division table going into Monday nights clash, with 19 points to their name from their opening 16 games.

WATERFORD FC TEAM NEWS

Graham Coughlan will have to assess his squad in training today ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Drogheda to the RSC. Sam Glenfield is back available for selection on Monday night having missed Friday’s draw with Derry due to suspension.

Jordan Houston is a doubt for Monday’s game having come off in the first-half on Friday with a shoulder injury, whilst Evan McLaughlin also remains doubtful after picking up a knock against Dundalk two weeks ago.

Finlay Armstrong continues his recovery from injury, as he steps up his work to return to the action.

GRAHAM COUGHLAN’S THOUGHTS

“Tomorrow will be a different type of game compared to Friday night. We’re expecting a battle. Friday’s point would turn out to be a great point if we can go and put three points on the board on Monday. Our aim was to come away with four points this weekend, and it’s what we’ll be looking to do.

The character & the resilience the players have shown since we came in has been brilliant. They’ve taken knocks, they’ve taken blows, all season they’ve had disappointments, but on Friday I was really proud of the performance they put on.

And I was proud of the supporters, how they cheered & clapped us off the pitch. Because we’re going to need everybody. The one thing we’re going to need that nobody can control is slices of luck along the way, and we just didn’t get that on Friday night.”
