Friday 29th May 2026

Sullivan & Lambe Park, Drogheda

WATERFORD FC

Graham Coughlan’s side head to Louth on Friday evening looking to return to winning ways after cruelly falling to defeat late on away to Shelbourne at Tolka Park last week. Will Jarvis opened the scoring for the hosts in the 37th minute, before Pádraig Amond fired in an instant response for the Blues just two minutes later. Substitute Sean Boyd stole all three points for the hosts in the 94th minute to give Joey O’Brien’s side their first home win of the season.

The Blues will look to close-out their first half of the season with a positive result on Friday night, with the annual League of Ireland mid-season break taking place next week before the side return to action at home to Sligo Rovers on Friday 12th June.

Waterford remain at the foot of the Premier Division table with ten points to their name, as they look to close the gap on those above them tomorrow night.

DROGHEDA UNITED FC

Drogheda welcome the Blues to Sullivan & Lambe Park on Friday night, looking for their first win in four games after a struggle in form in recent weeks.

The Blues picked up their first win of the season last week with a 2-1 win against Kevin Doherty’s side at the RSC, with Drogheda only managing to pick up a point at home to Dundalk in the Louth derby in a 1-1 draw in front of a sold-out Sullivan & Lambe Park.

The Claret & Blue sit in eighth position in the league table going into Friday night’s game, with 20 points to their name after 18 games played.

WATERFORD FC TEAM NEWS

Luke Heeney misses the trip to Drogheda on Friday due to suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season last weekend in Tolka Park.

Jordan Houston is a doubt for Friday’s game, while Finlay Armstrong (quad) & Evan McLaughlin (foot) remain out.

GRAHAM COUGHLAN’S THOUGHTS

“We would’ve spoken earlier in the week with the players about last week’s game against Shelbourne. It was a tough one to take for the players [with the late goal conceded], and like I said to them after the game let’s bottle up this anger & frustration and bring it into the game against Drogheda tomorrow now.

It’s a different type of challenge this week with a different opponent in Drogheda, but it’s one we’re looking forward to. We’ll have to roll up our sleeves and battle because that’s the type of game it will be, but we’ll be ready for it.

I’ve enjoyed working with the squad we have here. The players are giving us everything and as long as they continue in that mindset and that mentality, we’ll hopefully get them in the right path. The players have bough into what we’re trying to do, and they’re working really hard. I’m enjoying working with them – It’s a tough gig with a tough ask but we’re fighting. We’ll roll our sleeves up and we’ll give ourselves every opportunity to get ourselves out of this.”
