Waterford FC is delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Paul Keegan. The 33-year-old Dubliner joins the club having spent the last six years with Doncaster Rovers.

Keegan is no stranger to League of Ireland fans having won all there is to win during successful spells with Drogheda United and latterly Bohemians before making his switch to England in January 2011.

Waterford FC Director of Football Pat Fenlon links up with Keegan for a second spell after signing the player back in 2009 for Bohemians as the pair tasted league success as well as defeating Waterford United in the EA Sports Cup Final at the RSC where current Blues’ player Kenny Browne scored the consolation in a 3-1 defeat.

Speaking on joining the club, Keegan commented:

“I’m looking forward to being back in Ireland, playing games and helping to contribute to the team continuing to win games and ultimately the league title.

“The challenge of Waterford excites me, Waterford are in a great position at the minute, sitting top of the table and looking to add a few players to make sure they keep winning games and keep doing well.”

Speaking on his time away from League of Ireland football, Keegan added:

“Being away, I was always learning, always looking to add new things to my game but I’m still a similar player to what I was at Bohs and Drogheda. I like to get forward when I can but a lot of the time I look to sit in midfield, linking up play, organising and talking.”

Keegan also added that he was looking forward to working with Pat Fenlon again.

“I knew in signing for Waterford and for Pat that everything would be done right. He’s very meticulous in his organisation and he has formed a very good coaching team at the club. Obviously the contact with Pat and my relationship with him at Bohemians previously helps.

“Now I’m ready to go. I’ve been training individually and trying to keep myself as fit as possible but the past week of training with Waterford and the lads has really sharpened me up so now I’m just looking forward to playing games and getting back into the swing of things on the pitch.”

Keegan becomes Waterford’s second new arrival in the current transfer window after the addition of defender Sean Heaney on loan from Shamrock Rovers last week. Keegan will be included in the Waterford squad against Longford Town this weekend subject to International Clearance.
