Waterford FC is delighted to confirm that Matthew Connor has re-signed for the 2019 season.
The 21-year-old goalkeeper has made 30 appearances in the past two seasons and has put pen to paper to remain with the Blues as the club embark on their second season back in the Premier Division.
Connor, who played his schoolboy football with Tramore AFC, has also been capped at underage Republic of Ireland level.
Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie after signing for the 2019 season, Matthew said:
“I’m delighted to be back again. I’ve been part of this project since Lee Power has come in so it’s great to see it go from where we started to where it is now and I’m looking forward to the coming season.
“I can’t wait to get back to work to be honest. It’s been a long off-season personally with no college football this year, I think it’s the longest I’ve gone without being involved from a playing point of view. But the break has done me good and I can go into pre-season re-energised, refocused and in the best place I can be.
“European football is a great prospect and something to look forward to down the line but I can’t look that far ahead just yet. I’ve been part of a European run with Cork in 2016 which as a young player was incredible to be involved with. It would be amazing if I could go one further now and play especially with it being for my home town.”
Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie after confirming the signing, manager Alan Reynolds said:
“It’s great to have Matthew signed up again for next season. He’s still a young guy but he’s been picking up some good experience over the past number of years in the league.
“In the last couple of seasons, he’s developed from working with other talented goalkeepers and it’s great to see. Not only that, but he’s a good local lad who’s played with Tramore and worked his way to where he is now so we’re delighted he’s staying at the club.”
Matthew joins John Martin, Dean Walsh, Rory Feely, Cory Galvin, Shane Duggan, Bastien Hery, JJ Lunney, Zack Elbouzedi and Ismahil Akinade in the confirmed Waterford FC 2019 squad so far.
