Waterford FC look to make it three wins on the bounce when second-place Galway United visit the RSC this Friday night.

The Blues come into the game following two important wins away from home. Last weekend saw the Blues win 2-1 away to Treaty United in the Markets Field. Tunmise Sobowale opened the scoring for Danny Searle’s side with a fantastic strike, before Darragh Power doubled the lead.  A Paul Martin penalty save ensured the Blues took a 2-0 lead into the break, while a late Success Edogun goal was merely a conciliation for the home side on 89 minutes.

That result came off the back of a 3-2 win in Richmond Park to knock out FAI Cup holders St Patrick’s Athletic.

Visitors Galway United drew 2-2 with Wexford FC last weekend. A second-half goal from Stephen Walsh saw the home side come from behind after Rob Manley had given them the lead.

The side’s last meeting in the RSC saw Galway take the points after a first-half goal from Manu Dimas, while the side’s last meeting saw the Tribesmen take all three points thanks to a Killian Brouder header midway through the second half.

Both sides are in goal-scoring form, with the Blues scoring 12 in their last five and the visitors scoring 15 in the same period.

The Blues currently sit in third place, while Galway United occupy second place in the league standings.

From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Friday’s match against Galway United, head coach Danny Searle said:

“We know we can compete and beat any team on our day and that’s the consistency that we’re looking to get from the squad until the end of the season. We have quality in the squad and some outstanding young players who can’t wait to get back on the pitch.

“Galway will prove another very tough task. There hasn’t been much between the sides this season with three very close matches so we need to perform to pick up points.

“John [Caulfield] always has his side well set up but we’ve trained well all week and we’re ready for the challenge.”

Team News: Eddie Nolan and Brian Murphy miss out through injury.
