Kick-Off: 7:45pm

Waterford FC return to First Division action on Friday night as the Blues travel to Limerick to face Treaty United in the Markets Field.

The Blues come into the game following last weekend’s excellent 3-2 win against St. Patrick’s Athletic, knocking the Cup holders out in the first round of this year’s Extra.ie FAI Cup. The Blues took the lead through a Wassim Aouachria goal, before a second from Aouachria and a Junior Quitirna goal saw Danny Searle’s men come from behind to progress to the next round.

The sides last faced off back in May when the Blues took the three points in a 4-0 victory in the RSC. Goals from Louis Britton, Roland Idowu, Shane Griffin and Cian Kavanagh made sure of all three points for the Blues.

The side’s last meeting in the Markets Field saw the Blues slip to a 2-1 defeat after goals from Matt Keane and Enda Curran gave the home side a 2-0 lead before a late Eddie Nolan goal 15 minutes from the end halved the deficit.

Treaty non-league Usher Celtic 5-0 in the FAI Cup last weekend and have won their last three league matches without conceding a goal.

The Blues currently sit in third place, while Wexford sit in 5th place on 23 points.

From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Friday’s match against Treaty United, head coach Danny Searle said:

“It was a really tough test [against St Pat’s] but I’m delighted for the lads. The work the players put in on the training ground paid off and I’m so proud of them.

“We park that result and look to Friday straight away. We’ve recovered well and got back on the training ground and we go there looking to win.

“Last week set the benchmark for the players and we know how well we can play, so we’ve got to perform and build momentum coming into the latter part of the season. We saw some brilliant performances last weekend and we’ll be looking for more of the same this Friday.”

Team News: Wassim Aouachria is suspended following his recent red card. Eddie Nolan misses out through injury while late fitness tests will be needed for Brian Murphy and Yassine En-Neyah.
