Congratulations to Waterford FC’s Romeo Akachukwu and Jason Healy and the rest of the Ireland U17 squad who secured their qualification to the U17 European Championships.
Colin O’Brien’s side beat Cyprus 3-2 with a great performance from Jason and Romeo playing a major role from the bench to finish top of their elite stage qualification group, on goals scored ahead of Italy.
The young Irish team drew 2-2 with Italy before beating Ukraine 2-0 to set up today’s final group match where qualification was secured.
Both Jason and Romeon have played with the Blues at U13, U15, U-17 and U19 levels while also joining up with the Blues first team, while both players made their international debut for Ireland in 2021 at U16 level.
Many congratulations to Jason and Romeo’s schoolboy clubs, Southend United and Ferrybank, who have played a massive part in their current success.
