SSE Airtricity First Division
Finn Harps -v- Waterford FC
Friday, 19th May 2023
Kick-Off: 8.00pm
Referee: Oliver Moran
Waterford FC make the 800km round-trip to Donegal to take on Finn Harps in the SSE Airtricity First Division this Friday night.
The Blues come into the game on the back of an excellent 5-0 win on Friday night over Munster neighbours Cobh Ramblers in the RSC. Goals from Ronan Coughlan, Shane Griffin, Barry Baggley, Roland Idowu and Wassim Aouachria made sure of the points for the Blues in a convincing win.
The Blues’ last meeting against Finn Harps saw Keith Long’s side win 7-1 in the RSC, while the sides’ last meeting in Finn Park also saw the Blues take all three points.
Having scored 12 in their last five games, Keith Long’s side will be hoping their recent good form in front of goal continues against a Finn Harps side that have kept just four clean sheets this season so far.
The hosts come into the game sitting in 9th place, 15 points behind the Blues in second spot.
From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Friday’s match against Finn Harps, head coach Keith Long said:
“We were happy with our performance last week against Cobh Ramblers; we played some really good football throughout and that is where we need to be going forward. We need to drive on with this group of players and keep working.
“Our fans have been brilliant since we came in, especially on the road and we will need them every step of the way over the remainder of the season. Obviously we need to play our part and entertain them, but we need them to get behind us and push us further.
“There are some really positive things happening behind the scenes that will push the club as a whole forward. Everyone here is working hard to improve the club and we’ll continue to do our best to play our part on the pitch. Waterford is sports-mad and we’re hoping to keep bringing in new fans as the season continues to get behind this group of players.”
Team News: Darragh Power and Harvey Warren miss out through injury, while Matthew Connor returns to the squad following his return from injury.
