SSE Airtricity First Division
Longford Town -v- Waterford FC
Saturday, 27th May 2023
Kick-Off: 7.30pm
Referee: Declan Toland

Waterford FC are back on the road this Saturday with a trip to Bishopsgate to take on Longford Town.

The Blues come into the game on the back of a 4-0 win away to Finn Harps last Friday night, taking the lead after 26 minutes through a Conor Parsons goal before Ronan Coughlan doubled the lead five minutes later. Keith Long’s side continued to dominate the game in the second half and further goals from a superb Dean McMenamy finish and a Ronan Coughlan spot kick made sure of all three points in the North West.

The Blues last faced Longford Town back in February with the game finishing 1-1 at the RSC. The Blues’ last visit to the Strokestown Road ground saw them take all three points in a 2-1 win despite going behind early on.

The Town will be looking to build on their 3-0 win last weekend over Wexford FC in Ferrycarrig Park. Goals either side of half-time saw Longford take their fourth win of the season.

The hosts come into the game sitting in seventh place, while the Blues are in second spot.

From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match against Longford Town, Head Coach Keith Long said:

“It was a really good win [against Finn Harps] with four goals and another clean sheet which was important. We needed a professional performance because it’s never easy making that trip, and everybody did their jobs and we got the win. Ronan was on the scoresheet again, Connor [Parsons] is in good form and an excellent Dean McMenamy goal too so we’re very happy.

“Longford will prove a difficult challenge too. They had a good win last weekend and we know we’re in for a tough game. There wasn’t much between the teams earlier in the season and we’re expecting more of the same on Saturday night.”

Team News: Darragh Power continues to miss out through injury, while Ronan Coughlan is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season last weekend.
