SSE Airtricity First Division
Galway United -v- Waterford FC
Tuesday, 10th October 2023
Kick-Off: 7.45pm
Referee: Oliver Moran
A busy week on the road for Waterford FC begins with a trip to face Galway United this Tuesday evening.
Tickets can be purchased here now.
Following Tuesday’s match, Keith Long’s side travel to face Kerry FC this coming Saturday as the final league matches are played out ahead of the upcoming play-offs.
The Blues have picked up two wins and a draw in the last four matches, with both wins coming on the road away to Finn Harps and Longford Town.
The sides have played our three close league games this season already. Galway have won home and away by a single goal in each, before a 2-2 draw in the most recent meeting – with a late visitor’s goal stealing a point for our opponents.
Galway come into the game following defeat over the weekend in the FAI Cup semi-final – losing to Bohemians, but had been in good league form leading into that game.
The Blues remain second in the league table, behind Galway.
From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s match, head coach Keith Long said:
“We were disappointed not to have won the game [v Wexford] last time out but we were pleased with aspects of the game and another clean sheet.
“We’ve been able to get Barry Baggley, Rowan McDonald and Harry Nevin back on the pitch following injury spells, and it’s important that these boys are back fit as we go into the end of the season with big matches to play.
“We’ve been hard at work on the training ground since, playing in-house and getting more minutes into legs ahead of two away trips to Galway and Kerry, so we’re looking forward to getting back on the pitch this week.”
Team News: Giles Phillips has a knock and misses out, while Romeo Akachukwu is on international duty with the Republic of Ireland U19s.
