Waterford FC are on the road this Friday for the first time in 2024 as they make the journey to Weavers Park to face Drogheda United in their latest Premier Division clash, and we have all the details you need ahead of the game.

Fixture: Drogheda United FC vs Waterford FC

Competition: SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division

Date: Friday 23rd February 2024

Venue: Weavers Park, Drogheda

After kicking off their 2024 campaign against Shelbourne last week where Maleace Asamoah’s early-opener was cancelled out by Sean Boyd’s equaliser 15 minutes from time, the Blues travel to county Louth to face a difficult test against Kevin Doherty’s side in Weavers Park.

Drogheda opened up their season with a narrow defeat to Derry City in the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium last Friday, where full-back Evan Weir scored a well-taken free-kick to half the deficit mid-way through the second-half.

The Blues were backed by over 4,300 fans at the RSC last Friday, and will have a healthy away support in Weavers Park this Friday where Keith Long’s side will look to pick up their first three points of the season.

Speaking ahead of the game, Waterford FC Head Coach Keith Long is looking to build on last weeks positive performance against Shelbourne:

“It’s going to be a tough challenge up in Drogheda on Friday, but I feel we’ve prepared well and the lads have trained well. We travel in good spirits, and we hope to back up last week’s positive display with a strong team performance against Drogheda.”

“Drogheda away is always a difficult challenge. They are a well organised team with an exciting blend of young, talented players coupled with players that have extensive LOI experience. So it will be a tough game for us but also a great opportunity to try and improve on last week’s display.”

Team News: After missing out on last week’s league opener, Christie Pattison, Cameron Cresswell & Rowan McDonald all returned to training this week so all available for selection against Drogheda. No other injury concerns for Keith Long’s side.
