All six of our Waterford FC academy teams were in action over the weekend just gone, with reports on all games available below.
WU17: Kerry FC 0-1 Waterford FC
Our WU17 side continued their winning start of the 2024 season, picking up another three points away to Kerry FC on Saturday afternoon in Mounthawk Park.
Both sides shared possession & chances, and looked like the game was heading for a stalemate, until Zara Corcoran found the back of the Kerry net with ten minutes remaining to secure the points for the Blues.
The girls sit top of the EA Sports WU17 LOI Academy Group C table with four wins from their opening four games.
MU20: Waterford FC 5-0 Wexford FC
Our MU20 side also continued their unbeaten start to their 2024 campaign, with a big five-nil win at home to Wexford FC at SETU Arena on Saturday afternoon/
The Blues found themselves 3-0 up by half-time, thanks to an impressive first-half hat-trick from the ever-threatening Anthony Adenopo.
Calum Costello fired home just before the hour-mark to extend the sides lead, before Adenopo rounding off a fantastic win by netting his fourth, and the Blues’ fifth, three minutes from time.
This win keeps the MU20’s top of their EA Sports MU20 LOI Group C with ten points from their first four league games.
MU15: Waterford FC A-A CK United FC
Our MU15s game against CK United FC on Saturday was abandoned, after a member of the CK United squad had a nasty injury which required medical assitance.
Everyone at Waterford FC wishes the CK United FC player a speedy recovery, and we hope to see him back in action soon!
WU19: Cobh Ramblers FC 0-4 Waterford FC
Our WU19 side had a strong win away to Cobh Ramblers on Saturday afternoon, defeating the hosts by four-goals-to-nil.
Cathranne Fitzgerald & Emma Rossiter gave the Blues a two-nil lead at the break, before Fitzgerald found the net twice more in the second-half to secure her hat-trick & all three-points for the side.
This win leaves the side in third place in their LOI Academy WU19 Group C league table on nine points after five games.
MU14: Waterford FC 5-1 CK United FC
Our MU14 produced an all-round team performance to defeat CK United FC 5-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Aaron Brennan opened the scoring for the side, before Temmy Gazal added a second. Cormac Lowry then stole the show by scoring a hat-trick of his own – the third hat-trick of the weekend for our academy – as the side rounded off a strong 5-1 win.
MU17: Cobh Ramblers FC 2-1 Waterford FC
Our MU17 side fell to a narrow defeat to Cobh Ramblers at St. Colman’s Park on Sunday, as the hosts prevailed on a two-goals-to-one scoreline.
After entering the break scoreless, Ramblers found the back of the net twice in the opening twenty minutes of the second-half to race into a two-goal lead.
The Blues continued to battle to try get back into the game, and deservedly did-so through Jay Brophy after 83 minutes. However, the hosts saw out the remaining minutes to pick up all three-points.
