Matt Lawlor joined the Blues last week as interim first-team assistant coach, and we caught up with Matt to speak about his first week with the club which included his first game at the RSC last Friday evening.

After joining the Blues at the beginning of last week, the highly-regarded coach was straight into action with the side as Keith Long’s side prepared for their SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division clash against Galway United at the RSC – which saw the Blues pick up a point after a 0-0 draw against John Caulfield’s side.

Speaking on his first couple days on the training pitch with the side, Matt said:

“It was a good weeks training, getting used to the lads and them getting used to me at the same time! They’re a great group – both the players & staff – who all made me feel really welcome”

“It was a good first night at the RSC last Friday against Galway United. To see the set up for the first-time, along with the crowd was something I was really looking forward to since I joined the club.”

“The reception I got from the fans after walking in from the warm-up was brilliant. It showed me exactly the type of supporters we have here that back the side week after week”.

“Looking ahead to St. Patrick’s Athletic this Friday, we know they’re a good side. They had a good win against Shamrock Rovers recently, so we’re working hard in training this week to be at our best for Friday”.
