Waterford FC are excited to announce the loan signing of Louis Jones from EFL League Two side Doncaster Rovers FC for the remainder of the 2024 League of Ireland season.
The highly-rated keeper joins the Blues having made twenty appearances in League Two for Doncaster last season, as they narrowly missed out on promotion losing in the Play-Off semi-final to Crewe Alexandra.
Jones came up through the academy at Doncaster Rovers, before spending time out on loan in his younger years prior to breaking into the Doncaster first-team – making his debut against Bradford City in September 2020, where he saved a penalty in the shoot- out at the end of the 0–0 draw.
The Englishman spent two seasons playing in League One with Doncaster, before their relegation in 2022. He then spent a further two seasons with Doncaster in League Two, before now making the move to the RSC to join the Blues for the second-half of our season.
Now at 25 years of age, Jones is a welcome addition to the club as we prepare for our trip to Drogheda United tomorrow evening.
Jones was delighted to have made the move across to the Blues, commenting:
“I’m really excited to be here – I think it’s a great opportunity & I’m grateful to be here. The club is in a really good place, so I just want to help the team grow stronger.
I know a couple of players wo have played in the League [of Ireland] before and they all said lots of good things about the club here so it’s great to finally be here.
I travelled over yesterday, trained this morning so it was good to meet all the lads. They’re nice & sharp here – happy with how it went so hopefully we can get something tomorrow now in Drogheda.
I’ve had experience in both League One & League Two now – in front of some good crowds & also no crowds during Covid, so I’m looking forward to bringing that experience over here and getting regular game time. I’ve been in-and-out of the team at Doncaster, so I’m looking forward to my time here at Waterford.
I’ve always worked with my distribution, my shot stopping too. I’m an all-rounder really, so I’m really looking forward to getting straight into the action now”.
