WATERFORD FC

The Blues are back on the road this Friday, making the journey to Weavers Park to take on Drogheda United in their latest SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division clash of the 2024 season, as we look to maintain our 100% record over Kevin Doherty’s side so far this season.

The Blues picked up their first win of the season away to Drogheda at the end of February, with a resounding 4-1 win away from home. After falling behind after 13 minutes, the Blues got back in the game with two goals in seven minutes from Darragh Leahy & Niall O’Keeffe, before Leahy got his second of the game with Padraig Amond finishing off the scoring to secure Keith Long’s side all three points.

Waterford then hosted Drogheda United at the RSC in front of the Virgin Media cameras in May, when the Blues recovered from falling two-goals behind to pick up all three points with a strong 4-2 win. Padraig Amond netted a sensational 13-minute hat-trick, along with Darragh Power opening his account for the season, as the Blues came from behind to pick up an important three points in front of almost 2,500 spectators at the RSC.

Keith Long’s side will look to bounce back from their defeat away to Galway United a fortnight ago, as the Blues remain in third place in the league table with 37 points to their name after 24 games played.

DROGHEDA UNITED FC

Drogheda United welcome the Blues to Weavers Park on Friday looking to turn their season around after a difficult first-half to the season. With no wins in their last 9 league games (3 draws, 6 defeats), Kevin Doherty’s side occupy bottom place in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division table with 17 points to their name from 24 games.

Despite their recent struggles in league action, the Drogs had a strong two-one victory over their near-rivals Dundalk FC last Friday to knock the Lilywhites out of this years Sports Direct FAI Cup – with goals coming from James Bolger & Warren Davis.

After falling to two defeats to the Blues already this season, Drogheda will look to turn that around when the Blues visit Weavers Park this Friday.
