Waterford FC produced a stunning second-half performance to come from two-goals down against Bohemians to bring all three points back home thanks to Sam Glenfield’s late winner ten minute from time at Dalymount Park.

Glenfield scored an incredible winner for Waterford FC as they came from two goals down and survived a last gasp missed penalty against Bohemian FC in their titanic SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division Dalymount Park battle on Friday evening last.

With the home side starting the game on the front foot putting some dangerous balls into the penalty area, they struck for the breakthrough goal inside seven minutes. Dayle Rooney picked up possession of the ball from a Adam McDonnell pass out on the left side before cutting into the area, and he powered a left-footed shot high to the roof of the net past Louis Jones.

Padraig Amond flicked the ball onto Christie Pattisson on 14 minutes that saw the winger win a free-kick in a dangerous position right of centre 25-yards from goal, but Barry Baggley’s resulting left-footed effort cleared the crossbar of keeper Kacper Chorazka.

It was Chorazka that produced a stunning save to deny the Blues the equalising goal three minutes later, when Baggley swung in a right-wing set piece after Rooney had picked up a yellow for a late challenge on Darragh Power that found the head of Sam Glenfield, but somehow the keeper out his header.

The returning Barry Baggley, in his first start since March 15th when picking up injury in a scoreless draw with Dundalk, sent in a brilliant right-wing corner on 18 minutes that found the head of Padraig Amond at the back post, but his towering header struck the top of the crossbar.

Connor Parsons did well out on the left on 35 minutes that caused panic in the Bohs defence as he skipped past three tackles before going down in the area, and when the ball broke to Baggley on the top of the penalty area, he blazed a shot with his unfavoured right-foot high over the bar.

Despite the strong Blues pressure, it was the hosts who doubled their lead eight minutes before the break as Dayle Rooney put a ball on a plate for Dawson Devoy to finish from 12 yards.

The second-half was less than a minute old when the Blues got themselves back into the game from a quick right-wing corner that saw Barry Baggley whip in a cross that was flicked on by the head of Rowan McDonald, and it was the Bohs skipper Adam McDonnell that diverted the ball into his own net.

Danny Grant carved out a chance for himself at the other end on 54 minutes when he cracked in a low shot that was saved by Louis Jones before Parsons sent over a left-wing corner five minutes later that was knocked down at the back post, but Christie Pattisson couldn’t connect on the loose ball.

A much improved Blues levelled the game on 62 minutes from another short corner this time from the left. Parsons and Baggley combined with the latter putting in a ball that was cleared up in the air with Amond knocking the ball down for Darragh Power and he blasted to the corner past Kacper Chorazka.

Chorazka showed his class in the Bohs goal to deny Waterford going in front three minutes later when Padraig Amond knocked the ball into the six-yard box for Kacper Radkowski, but his countryman denied him with a top close-range stop.

Fleetwood Town loanee Sam Glenfield sent the Waterford fans wild when he scored an incredible third goal for his side with nine minutes remaining on the clock. A long Ryan Burke throw was cleared into the path of Parsons, who fed Glenfield, and he buried a low 25-yard right-footed beyond Kacper Chorazka.

There was still time for more drama as the home side were awarded a penalty five minutes into six added minutes when James Clarke went down under a combined challenge of Power and Ben McCormack, but beyond belief of the visiting faithful, Dayle Rooney’s thunderous effort came crashing back off the bar.
