Waterford FC welcome First Division outfit Athlone Town AFC to the RSC this Friday for our Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup Third Round tie, as the Blues will look to progress into the quarter-final of this year’s cup competition.
After defeating Cockhill Celtic in the Second Round in July, Keith Long’s host Athlone Town at the RSC in our Third Round clash this week.
The Blues found themselves behind after 13 minutes when Luke Rudden opened the scoring for the Donegal non-league side, before Gbemi Arubi levelled proceedings on the 22 minute mark.
Ryan Burke found the winner 90 seconds into the second-half, heading home Darragh Power’s deep cross to secure the Blues’ passage into the Third Round of the competition.
After reaching the semi-final stage twice in the last three seasons, the Blues will look to go that one step further this year and reach the show-piece final at the Aviva Stadium on November 9th.

Gates open at the earlier time of 6pm on home match nights at the RSC, to give fans plenty time to mingle in our Fan Zone.
