We caught up with James Olayinka earlier this week to chat about his move to the RSC, after the midfielder penned a deal with the club ahead of the 2025 League of Ireland season.
When asked about his move to Waterford and what it means to him, James said:
“I’m very pleased to get going at Waterford. I’ve had a bit of time out [since his 2023 season finished with Cheltenham Town], so it will be good to get back playing & training every day with the squad”.
Olayinka has spent the last few weeks training with our sister-club Fleetwood Town at Poolfoot Fram, as he aims to get 2025 off to a strong start with the Blues, commenting “I’ve been training at Fleetwood just to get back into the swing of things. They’ve been really good with me during the last few weeks. Now I’m ready to back playing competitively week in week out with the Blues.
James describes himself as a “box-to-box midfielder, who can make late runs and scores goals.” He’s a player not afraid to take on his man, mentioning how he “likes to try and carry the ball forward whenever I can to make things happen”.
We asked James of his experience at the Arsenal academy and how his time there will help him at the Blues:
“I think it will help. Having been around the first team over there, I’ve picked up some good habits and learnt from some really good players, so hopefully I can bring that over here.
Welcome to Waterford, James!
