Waterford FC are excited to announce the loan-signing of highly-rated goalkeeper Stephen McMullan from Fleetwood Town FC for the 2025 League of Ireland season.

McMullan joins the Blues having spent the last six months on loan at Welsh Premier Division side Caernarfon Town FC from Fleetwood, where he made 20 appearances for the Welsh outfit – four of which came in Caernarfon’s UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.

The Armagh native began his career at Warrenpoint Town where he progressed from the Points academy to their first-team, where he made his senior debut at just 17 years of age.

The now 20-year-old shot-stopper shone in the spotlight at Warrenpoint, as he earned a move across the Irish Sea to join Fleetwood Town in 2022. He initially lined-out for the Cod Army’s U18 & Development sides, before earning his first-team debut in a 1-0 win over MK Dons at Highbury Stadium in April of 2023.

Stephen made a further five-appearances for Fleetwood in the 2023/24 season, before joining Caernarfon Town FC to earn further first-team minutes.

McMullan has international recognition at U18, U19 & U21 level for Northern Ireland, where he amassed 9 caps to his name across all age-groups. Stephen received his first senior Northern Ireland call-up in November of 2023 where was an unused substitute in their win over Denmark at Windsor Park & a defeat away to Finland in their UEFA 2024 Qualifying group action.

The keeper now makes the move to the RSC for 2025, where he will look to play an important role in the new season for the Blues.

Stephen will wear the number 1 for the Blues in 2025.

Welcome to Waterford, Stephen!
