Amond Named SWI/SSE Airtricity Player of the Month for July

Waterford FC are delighted to announce Pádraig Amond has secured July’s SWI/SSE Airtricity Player of the Month, after a stellar month leading the line for the Blues.

Netting five goals throughout the month of July, the Blues skipper fended off opposition in Dawson Devoy (Bohemian FC) & Jad Hakiki (Sligo Rovers FC) to secure the award, who came second & third respectively in the voting.

Amond kicked off his month as he continued, firing in two second-half finishes away to Derry City at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium, before playing a pivotal role in our 2-0 win at home to Cork City in the Munster Derby at the RSC.

Podge returned to his goalscoring form with a powerful finish in our 5-1 Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup Second Round clash against St. Mochta’s FC at the RSC – heading home Finlay Armstrong’s deep cross to score our final goal of the evening to secure our place in the Third Round – where we travel to face Cork City FC in Turners Cross tomorrow evening.

Not content with his three goals for the month, Amond guided the Blues to our first win in 18 years away to Galway United in our final game of the month as we defeated the Tribesmen 4-2 at Eamonn Deacy Park, where Podge scored a second-half double to send us on our way to victory in the West of Ireland.

This is Amond’s second Player of the Month award he’s earned since his return home to the League of Ireland, picking up May’s Player of the Month award in 2024 where he fired home four goals in six games for the Blues – as he went on to be named the Premier Division’s joint top-goalscorer last season in his first year with the club.

Podge now sits at the top of this years goalscoring charts, with 12 goals to his name already in 2025.

Everyone at Waterford FC congratulates Padraig on picking up top spot for this award once again!
