WATERFORD FC

Waterford turn their attention back to league action this weekend with the visit of Sligo Rovers to the RSC as we enter our final round of fixtures in the 2025 SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division.

The Blues kicked off the season with a 3-2 win away to Sligo Rovers FC as goals from Rowan McDonald, Tommy Lonergan & Conan Noonan gave the Blues maximum points at The Showgrounds on the opening weekend.

The Blues sit in seventh position in the league table going into Friday evening’s game at the RSC, with 34 points to their name from 27 games.

SLIGO ROVERS FC

John Russell’s side make the journey down from the North-West looking to continue their recent good run of form – with five wins from their last nine league games going into Friday’s game.

Their most recent league win came at the end of last month, dramatically coming back from 2-0 down away to Cork City FC to defeat the Rebels 3-2 thanks to a 90th-minute winner from loanee Ryan O’Kane.

The Bit o’Red have had success against the Blues, emerging victorious in our two most recent games this season, as John Coleman’s side will look to return to winnin ways against Sligo on Friday.

Sligo remain in ninth position in the league table going into Friday’s game – eight points behind the Blues with 26 points.

TEAM NEWS

Kacper Radkowski is nearing a return to fitness having spent a long period on the sidelines through injury.

DANNY VENTRE’S THOUGHTS

“They [Sligo] will come with their threats, but they’ve also got their vulnerabilities. I think they are the lowest team in the league for transition attacks against, so I think they’ve conceded about 18 to 19 shots on average per game as the season has panned out. We’ve got nothing to fear against them. The form table might tell you different, but we’re a good side, and when we’ve got the right players on the right pitch, we should have a little bit more than Sligo.”
