Waterford FC are delighted to confirm that exciting midfielder Mia Lenihan will remain a Blue for 2026, re-signing ahead of the 2026 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division.
The attacking midfielder returns for 2026, having made over 25 appearances across all competitions for Gary Hunt’s side in our inaugural season in the Women’s Premier Division in 2025.
The Waterford native joined the Blues in 2024 from Wexford as she spent the second-half of the season lining out for our WU19 side before making the step-up to our senior side last season.
Mia’s creativity shone in the Blues front-line, becoming a key part of the Blues attacking threat throughout the year, most notably when she scored a stunning goal in our 3-1 home win against Cork City in the Munster derby last July.
The 22 year-old becomes the third member of Gary Hunt’s side to re-sign for 2026, after the announcements of Maeve Williams & Fiana Bradley last week.
Speaking to the club after re-signing, Mia spoke of her excitement at playing in-front of the Blues fans again in 2026, saying:
“I’m delighted to be back with Waterford again for this season. I can’t wait to get started and hopefully kick on from last year. I’m looking forward to seeing all the fans back in the RSC again soon.”
Blues Head Coach Gary Hunt is delighted to secure the services of Lenihan for 2026, mentioning:
“I’m delighted to welcome Mia back with us. Similar to many of the group, last year will stand to Mia and from conversations in the off season she is keen to kick on this year and cement her place as a regular in the team.
Matching up this level of motivation with her ability on the ball, I’m sure Mia will showcase her abilities to the Blues fans this year.
She is a local player and takes a lot of pride in representing her club, something we want to make sure is part of the fabric of the team.”
Welcome back, Mia!
