Waterford FC are excited to announce the re-signing of defender Keira Burke ahead of the 2026 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division.

After coming up through the Waterford FC academy, Keira made the step-up to the first-team last summer, playing an important role in the Blues defence.

Keira joined the Blues’ WU17 side midway through the 2023 season from Waterford Bohemians, before continuing her development with our WU19’s in 2024 & 2025.

Burke, a strong & versatile full-back who is comfortable playing further up the pitch, made her senior debut for the club in May of last year away to Athlone Town AFC, before becoming a regular in Gary Hunt’s defence throughout the season.

Now back for 2026, Burke is keen to build on last year’s foundations at the club:

“I’m buzzing to be back with Waterford for the upcoming season &  to get more senior football under my belt. I’m looking forward to building on what we created last year, and I can’t wait to see all our supporters back at the RSC in March.”

Waterford Head Coach Gary Hunt is delighted to work with Burke again in 2026, saying:

“It’s brilliant to see young players like Keira work their way into the first team through keeping their head down and working hard while also speaking & listening to her coaches about how she can get better.

Keira is determined to play at this level and this trait is something that makes her stand out. She got to come up against many of the top attackers in the league last season and she has been much better for those experiences.

I’m looking forward to seeing her back on the pitch in the coming season and working closely with her to bring her game to the next level.”

Welcome back, Keira!
