Waterford FC are delighted to announce that Erin O’Brien has committed her future to the club, re-signing for the 2026 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division campaign.
The exciting-winger had an impressive first year in Blue in 2025, netting four times across all competitions, as she looks to play an important role for the Blues in 2026.
O’Brien made the move to the RSC last February ahead of the 2025 kick-off having previous League of Ireland experience with Cork City FC, where she has spent 2023 & 2024 with their first-team.
The Fermoy-native made her first-team debut for the Rebel Army in 2023, making her debut against Peamount United along with four further appearances that year.
Injury stalled her progress in 2024 for her club, where she made 7 appearances, but excelled on the college scene as she played a vital role in UCC’s historic league win against ATU Sligo earlier last season before joining the Blues where she made an immediate impact for Gary Hunt’s side.
Netting four times in 2025, including an impressive brace against DLR Waves in March to help the Blues to our historic home league win in Women’s football on a 4-2 scoreline.
Now ready to kick-on for 2026, O’Brien is focused on building on from our first-year in the Women’s Premier Division:
“I’m delighted to be re-signing with Waterford this season. Last season was a big one for the club in its first year in the league, and I enjoyed playing my part in attack. We’re a young squad with a lot of ambition, and I’m excited to continue and push on and help the team progress this season.”

“Erin is back for the new season and having had last year as a springboard to showcase what she can do at this level, I am excited to see her build on this.
She picked up an injury which cut her season a little short but is excited at the prospect of getting back on the pitch in blue for 2026. She has many qualities that are a little different to other forwards we have and those traits are important for us to make sure we can be better from last season’s experiences.
Erin is hungry to succeed at this level and that’s the type of players we want in the group, ones who are motivated intrinsically to be better every day.”
