WATERFORD FC
John Coleman brings his Blues side to his old stopmping ground this Saturday, as Waterford kick-off their second-half of the 2025 season with a visit to The Showgrounds to take on Sligo Rovers FC.
We got our 2025 campaign off to the perfect start back in February on the opening weekend of the season at The Showgrounds, as goals from Rowan McDonald, Tommy Lonergan & Conan Noonan gave the Blues all three points with a dramatic 3-2 win against the Bit o’Red.
The Blues drew both their final two league games 2-2 before the mid-season break (against St. Patrick’s Athletic & Drogheda United), as they look to return to winning ways with a result against Sligo Rovers FC on Saturday evening.

SLIGO ROVERS FC
John Russell’s side welcome the Blues to Sligo looking to pick up just their fourth win of the season on Saturday evening at The Showgrounds, as his side come into the clash sitting at the foot of the table.
With 12 points to their name from their opening 18 games, Sligo’s last win came away to Galway United in the middle of May – while they have just one home win under their belt in 2025 to-date (a 2-1 win against Shamrock Rovers FC in March).

TEAM NEWS
Rowan McDonald misses the trip to Sligo on Saturday through suspension, while Kacper Radkowski remains absent after picking up an ankle injury prior to the mid-season break.
Trae Coyle, Matty Smith & Andy Boyle remain injured, with John Coleman hopeful of having Trae Coyle & Andy Boyle back involved in matchday squads in the coming weeks.
JOHN COLEMAN’S THOUGHTS
“I think Sligo’s performances are better than what the league table suggests & what their points total suggests. We’re going to have to be at our very best tomorrow.
Our players are under no illusions at how important the task is ahead of us tomorrow, and that’s the same for any team you go to in this league.
I’ve gone on record in recent weeks saying how impressed I’ve been with the league since I came back, so we know we can’t drop our own standards that we’ve set out in recent weeks.
Everyone can see we’re playing good football, and we’ve got to translate that into results – starting tomorrow night in Sligo.”
