SSE Airtricity League Premier Division
Waterford FC -v- Limerick FC
Friday, October 26, 2018
Kick Off: 7.45pm
Referee: Eoghan O’Shea
The curtain comes down on Waterford FC’s first season back in the Premier Division this Friday with Limerick FC the visitors to the RSC.
A 4th-place finish, a Europa League spot and a home match to end the season means the pressure is off for league places but the Blues won’t be taking the foot off the pedal.
Last week’s defeat in Tallaght Stadium meant that it was a fourth-place finish for Alan Reynolds side after a fantastic season back in the Premier Division.
An own goal and a Dan Carr strike had Shamrock Rovers 2-0 up before Izzy Akinade headed home Dessie Hutchinson’s cross to half the deficit. A late goal ensured a 3-1 win for the home side.
The Blues come into the game looking for three points to put right the 6-3 scoreline at the RSC in May. The Blues won the first game of the season in the Market’s Field before an incredible nine-goal game in Limerick’s favour in the RSC. Limerick also picked up a 2-1 win in the second away fixture in August and the Blues will be keen to erase those defeats from memory this Friday.
Speaking ahead of the game, manager Alan Reynolds said:
“It’s the final game of what’s been a whirlwind season and it’s great to have it at home. I’ve spoken about it before, but our aim this season was to consolidate our position in the Premier Division after coming up last season and to finish in 4th place is fantastic for the club.
“Limerick have beaten us twice this season so they’ll be out to do it again and get some form before the play offs. We had that freak game here during the summer with all the goals but they beat us away from home too so we won’t expect an easy game despite their league position.
“We’ll be out to win it, enjoy the night in front of our own fans and play good football on the RSC pitch which is a credit to all who work on it.”
TEAM NEWS: Alan Reynolds has no injury concerns ahead of the final game of the season.
