SSE Airtricity League Premier Division

Waterford FC -v- St. Patrick’s Athletic

Friday, 4th September 2020

Kick-Off: 7.45 pm

Referee: Paul McLaughlin

Waterford FC welcome St. Patrick’s Athletic to the RSC this Friday night as the Blues look to return to winning ways.

The sides last faced off back in February on the opening night of the season when the Blues ran out 1-0 winners over the South Dublin club in Richmond Park.

Of the four encounters last season, the Blues won on three occasions, scoring seven goals. The Blues only loss came in the RSC.

The Blues go into Friday night’s game on the back of a disappointing defeat at the hands of Finn Harps on the last game day. Despite taking the lead twice, the Blues fell to a 3-2 defeat after three second half goals for the Donegal side.

Managers View: Speaking ahead of Friday’s match against St. Patrick’s Athletic, manager John Sheridan said:

“We were all disappointed with how the result went the last day against Harps. I felt we had done enough in the first half to possibly come in two up at the break and inevitably that has cost us three points.

“St Pats will come down here now on Friday and will be looking to take three points off us. We all know we have a tough game coming –  the lads beat them already this season in Dublin and I’m sure they can do something similar on Friday night.

“We’ve been putting in a lot of hard work in the training ground and the boys all have a fire in their belly. They don’t want to feel as low as they did last week after the Harps game. Things from the training ground just need to transfer to the playing field and I think we’ll be okay.

“Obviously the big news around at the moment is that we have signed Daryl Murphy. Any club in the league would be happy with a signing of his calibre. He’s played here before, he knows the club and he knows the fans so it’s a boost for us all.

Team News: Sam Bone misses out due to a hamstring injury. Daryl Murphy is a doubt due to a calf injury. Brian Murphy is also a doubt after sustaining a hand injury in training during the week.
