Waterford FC is delighted to announce the signing of Richard Taylor.
Taylor impressed Blues fans in the recent friendly win away to Cobh and Ian Morris was quick to snap up his services for the season.
The defender, comfortable at centre back or full back, comes into the side as the Blues continue to build a squad seeking promotion to the Premier Division for the 2023 season.
The 21-year-old spent time at Burnley in the U-18 set up before moving onto Southend United where he played in League 1 and 2, with moves to Barnet and Dagenham & Redbridge FC in the National League.
Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie, Richard said: “I’m really pleased to be joining Ian and the boys. I’ve been so impressed with the standard and togetherness in the group and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve. We have a great mix of players and we will give everything to get the club back where it belongs.
“I spoke to Woody [Anthony Wordsworth] about signing as I knew him previously and he said good things about the club and the city. It’s a good opportunity for myself to show everyone what I’m capable of. The club has great support behind it and I can’t wait to get playing in front of everyone.”
Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie, manager Ian Morris said: “Richard was one we have been chasing since I came in. He’s a big lad, and he’s quick & comfortable on the ball. We are asking him to do a different role to what he has been used to, but which we believe he will excel in.”
