Waterford FC is delighted to confirm that Sam Sargeant has signed a new contract to remain with the club ahead of the 2024 season.
Sargeant joined Waterford FC in July earlier this year half-way through the 2023 First Division season, and has now penned a contract to remain at the club for the 2024 season, as the club look forward to Premier Division football.
Sam signed from English Football League side Leyton Orient, and made his Blues debut away to St. Michael’s AFC in a 5-0 win in the 2023 Sports Direct FAI Cup 1st Round, as he went on to make a further 17 appearances which culminated in a 2-1 win in the Promotional/Relegation Final over Cork City FC in Tallaght Stadium at the beginning of November.
Speaking to Waterfordfc.ie, Sam said:
“It’s a really exciting time for the club; we set out a goal last season to get promoted which we achieved. It’s exciting to see the club back where it belongs. Waterford is a great club with a great fan base, a real good family & community feel and to help get it back to where it should be, in the Premier Division, is really exciting. I think everyone should be high in anticipation and excitement for what we can achieve next season.
“It’s a group of lads, great staff, it was a joy to be apart of such a good team and to get success was just the cherry on top. I felt like I had a good season, I’m looking to build on that and help the club in any way to achieve more success in the Premier Division next season.
“It’s exciting playing for bigger prizes, against bigger opposition, and the rewards can be massive so it’s a really exciting time to be at the club. It’s a club that’s going in the right direction, everyone should be really looking forward to what we can do in the 2024 season.”
