Waterford FC vs Drogheda United FC

SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division

Friday 30th May, 2025

RSC, Waterford

7:45pm

WATERFORD FC

The Blues return to the RSC for our latest fixture of our league campaign, as we welcome Kevin Doherty’s side for our latest meeting between the sides.

John Coleman’s side come into the game off the back of an impressive performance in Inchicore last Friday where we picked up a point in an entertaining 2-2 draw against St. Patrick’s Athletic FC in a game that was shown live on Virgin Media 2.

Tommy Lonergan got the Blues off to the dream start after just 72 seconds, firing home an early opener to give us the lead. A Mason Melia double gave the hosts the lead at the break, before Conan Noonan fired home the all-important equaliser ten minutes from time to give the Blues their first draw of the season.

The Blues will be looking to avenge our 2-0 defeat to tomorrow’s opponents in our reverse fixture back in March tomorrow evening with a result at home.

DROGHEDA UNITED FC

The surprise package of the 2025 Premier Division season make the 430km-round trip to the RSC tomorrow to take on the Blues in their final outing before the mid-season break.

The Drogs picked up an important 1-0 win at home to Bohemian FC at Sullivan & Lambe Park last weekend thanks to Douglas James-Taylor’s spot-kick on the hour mark.

After draws against Shelbourne FC & Derry City FC, Drogheda will look to continue that run of form at the RSC tomorrow evening.

TEAM NEWS

The Blues have no fresh injury concerns to worry about going into our clash against Drogheda United tomorrow evening.

Matty Smith, Andy Boyle, Trae Coyle & Kacper Radkowski all remain out on the injury-list.

JOHN COLEMAN’S THOUGHTS

“It’s been a hectic three-and-a-half weeks, but really enjoyable all the same. The players have been great, it’s been great to get to know them individually too. Their work rate & work ethic has been second-to-none, and they’re working really hard on the training ground taking on board everything we’re telling them.

We’re going out to win the game tomorrw like we do every week – which people saw last week – and if we tighten up on the errors we’ve made, the better we will be”.
