Welcome to Waterford FC, Finlay Armstrong!

Waterford FC are excited to announce the signing of wing-back Finlay Armstrong as our first signing of the summer transfer window, subject to international clearance.

Armstrong pens an 18-month deal with the Blues having most recently spent the last season with Rochdale AFC where he made 22 appearances for the Dale.

The 22 year-old came up through the Burnley FC academy where he joined at the age of 12. Having come up through the ranks of the Clarets, he spent time with their U23 side in Premier League 2 where he netted his first goal in a 1-1 draw away to Wolves’ U23s at the start of 2022.

Finlay earned himself loan moves around the National League structures of English Football from the age of 17 as he experienced senior football for the first time, before making the permanent move away from Turf Moor to Fleetwood Town FC ahead of the 2023/24 EFL season.

The left-footed player made his first-team debut for the Cod Army in September of 2023, starting left full-back in their EFL League One clash at home to Oxford United FC.

Armstrong made two further first-team appearances in the EFL Trophy in home wins over Tranmere Rovers FC & Leicester City FC U23s, before departing Highbury to join Rochdale twelve-months ago.

The defender made a short one-month loan move to Kings Lynn Town in January of this year, before returning to Rochdale for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

After spending a week training with the Blues earlier this summer, Finlay signs on the dotted line to become our first signing of the summer transfer window to add further depth to our defensive options – where he can play both sides of a back line.

After putting pen to paper on his contract, Finlay sat down with us to give his first thoughts as a Waterford FC player.

Armstrong will wear the number 23 shirt for John Coleman’s side. Welcome to the Blues, Finlay!
