Waterford FC are delighted to announce the signing of Orla Hickey, who joins our Women’s first-team for the second-half of 2025.

A key figure in the county’s senior camogie team and a standout performer in local soccer, Orla now brings her talent & ability to the League of Ireland stage.

Hickey, who hails from Cappoquin, has been a mainstay of the Waterford senior camogie panel for the past eight seasons, playing a central role in some of the county’s most memorable moments in recent years — including their run to the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Final in 2023. More recently just last weekend, Orla and her Waterford Camogie teammates made it to this years All-Ireland Senior Hurling Semi-Final where they were defeated against Cork at Nowlan Park.

Known for her composure on the ball, relentless work ethic, and natural leadership, Orla has earned admiration across the GAA community for her performances in the white and blue.

Orla has also made her mark in football with Dungarvan United, where she has consistently been one of the most influential players in their senior women’s side. Her performances in the Angela Hearst Memorial Cup further highlighted her versatility, composure under pressure, and ability to dictate play from midfield.

This signing marks another exciting step forward for Waterford FC Women, as the club continues to attract the best homegrown talent from across the region. With her elite-level mindset, deep experience in high-performance environments, and passion for continuous development, Hickey brings a valuable presence both on and off the pitch.

Speaking on signing for her hometown club, Orla said:

“I’m delighted to join the club and proud to have the opportunity to play at the highest level in the country, something which a lot of players didn’t have when I was younger.

Its been fantastic to see the team playing in the RSC and inspiring younger girls, and I hope I can contribute to the great progress already made by the players & staff.

I’ve worked with Gary before and I’m thankful he put his trust in me to offer me this chance and now I can’t wait to get started.”

Waterford FC Head Coach Gary Hunt is delighted have have the services of Orla Hickey for the second-half of 2025, commenting:

“I’m delighted to welcome Orla to the club and looking forward to seeing her take the opportunity to play for the Blues after excelling in the game from a young age which included opportunities to play in this league outside of the county.

Orla has shown her sporting ability in other codes but is extremely motivated to show what she can do here and I hope that her experience alongside everything else will help the group as we continue to grow in the Women’s Premier Division

It is important we keep a local identity among the squad and Orla is a great example that there is talented players within Waterford.”

Hickey will wear the number 8 shirt for the Blues.
