Waterford FC are delighted to announce the signing of full-back Joe Ashton ahead of the transfer window deadline tomorrow evening.
The 19 year-old makes the move to the RSC having spent the last four years with Burnley’s academy set-up in England, with loan moves Hyde United & Marine FC included during his time at Turf Moor.
Joe has made 17 appearances in National League North in England with Hyde & Marine, whilst also accumulating 30 appearances across the Premier League 2 League & Cup, and FA Youth Cup competitions during his time in the UK.
Ashton now joins the Blues for the remainder of 2026 after a successful trial period in recent weeks, where he impressed the Blues management staff.
The left-footed full back becomes our second summer signing after Blair McKenzie, and will provide competition at full-back on both sides of Graham Coughlan’s defence.
Speaking on his move to the RSC, Joe outlined his excitement to get straight to work with the club, saying:
“I’m delighted to be with the Blues & I can’t wait to get started now with the club. I’m excited to see you all at the RSC soon.”

Joe is a strong addition, he’s someone who will make our squad stronger and will add competition for places out wide. His flexibility will help us in a variety of different positions.”
Joe will wear the number 6 shirt with the Blues.
