Waterford FC make the trip to Turners Cross this Monday for a big Munster Derby against Cork City.

With three wins on the bounce and a quick turnaround, the Blues come into the game following Friday nights 2-1 win over second-placed Galway United in the RSC.

A superb Roland Idowu finish after the quarter hour equalised for the Blues before Junior Quitirna’s spot kick secured all three points in front of a bumper crowd in the RSC.

That win followed up on victories over Treaty United and St Patrick’s Athletic and keeps the pressure on the top two in the league table.

Cork come into Monday’s game on the back of a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Treaty United on Friday night – ending a 20+ unbeaten run, after goals from Ben O’Riordan and Marc Ludden made sure of the points for the Limerick side.

Ruairi Keating and Cian Murphy scored inside the opening 20 minutes for a home win when the side’s last met in Turners Cross back in March.

The Blues currently sit in third place, nine points behind league leaders Cork City.

From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Monday’s match against Cork City, head coach Danny Searle said:

“We were thrilled [with Friday’s win]. We knew once we got our foot on the ball and started playing our game we could hurt them.

“It’s not an ideal situation for either team [to play on Monday] but we’ve got to go there and make sure we give a good account of ourselves. Cork are top of the table for a reason so they’ll be favourites.

“The players have been in for a recovery session and back on the pitch over the weekend to prepare the best we can so we’ll go there with plenty of confidence after our good recent performances and results.”

Team News: Eddie Nolan and Brian Murphy continue to miss out.
