Waterford FC can confirm that Shane Griffin and Paul Martin have joined the squad for the 2019 season, while Dean O’Halloran has joined Bray Wanderers on loan until the summer.
The two young players Martin and Griffin have worked their way from the Waterford FC Academy setup to be part of the first team squad over the past year, while O’Halloran will spend the first half of the season at the Carlisle Grounds.
Goalkeeper Martin, twin brother of midfielder John, is a former St Patrick’s Athletic keeper and played for Dublin side Belvedere as well as being capped underage by the Republic of Ireland.
Waterford-born midfielder Shane Griffin captained the Blues underage side last season as well as being involved with Alan Reynolds’ first team. Having played his local football with Villa FC, Griffin played for the Waterford FC U17 and U19 team before graduating into the first team.
Speaking after confirming the moves, first team manager Alan Reynolds said: It’s great to get the two lads signed up now. Paul is a good young goalkeeper and it’ll benefit him greatly competing with Matthew and Hugo which will only help his development. Shane has been in around the first team since last season too and has developed really well so far. He’s a real player for the future and having him in around the first team over the past year has been great. Dean goes on loan to Bray Wanderers until the summer; we wish him all the best for the next couple of months.”
